5 Tips to Better Hygiene

Most people assume that maintaining hygiene only helps in improving their social appeal. While there is some truth in such an argument, there is more than what meets the eye. Majority of the diseases that we suffer from are triggered by poor hygiene. Besides that lack of better hygiene encourages the spreading of viruses and bacteria that cause those diseases. In fact, failing to maintain hygiene is costly in the long run. This is due to the fact that you will end up spending money while seeking treatment at a health facility. The problem with most people is that they like underestimating the importance of simple acts of observing hygiene. Here is a list of things you can be doing everyday to reduce the chances of contracting diseases that are spread by germs.

  1. Shower Daily

This one goes without saying. Regardless of whether you are active during the day or not, your body will secrete sweat through skin pores. This one of the ways that are used by the body to eliminate waste and regulate temperature. When the sweat dries up, it traps traces of dust and other dirt from the environment. This makes you to have an awful smell at the end of the day. In fact, it’s not easy to fall asleep when you are sweaty. Taking a shower early in the morning and in the evening will leave you feeling fresh throughout. But some people prefer to shower once; either in the morning or in the evening. After getting out of the bathroom, you can apply a deodorant on your armpits for the sake of lifting your mood.

  1. Brush Your Teeth

Failure to brush your teeth regularly causes it to get discolored due to thick stains. The worst is that your breadth smells like trash. As a matter of fact, poor oral hygiene makes you vulnerable to gum disease. With time, plaque accumulates in the gums which in return weakens your teeth. That’s why you should consider dealing with the bad breath with toothpaste. Brushing teeth with toothpaste helps in preventing accumulation of disease causing bacteria. You should also floss your teeth with a mouth wash solution or a string. The advantage of this is that it helps in eliminating germs and bacteria that can’t be cleared by the brush.

  1. Wear Clean Clothes

There is no point of taking a shower if you will still wear the same dirty clothes. In case you didn’t know, dirty clothes provide breeding grounds for bacteria and germs that cause diseases. That’s why they make you feel like scratching your skin all the time. You should actually wear clean clothes every day. Wearing the same clothes for more than one day is not recommended as they absorb all the sweat from your body. In fact, you should press them with an iron before putting them on. This helps in killing any germs that might have survived from the scorching sun or water and soap.

  1. Wash Hands after Visiting the Toilet

Washing your hands only takes less than a minute. But it’s surprising how many people don’t bother to wash their hands after visiting the toilet. When you wash your hands with soap and water, it helps in removing any germs and bacteria that you might have picked unknowingly from the bathroom, especially if it’s used by other people besides yourself. When you handle food after visiting the toilet or changing bathe baby, you are simply putting yourself and other people at risk of contracting diseases such as diarrhea, typhoid and cholera.

  1. Avoid sharing personal Items

It’s very unhygienic to share personal items such as towels, combs, socks, handkerchiefs, caps and undergarments. Such items can easily spread diseases when they are used by one person. A towel for instance can contribute to the spread of skin diseases. Similarly, if you use a comb that was previously used by someone who has dandruff, you are also likely to suffer from the same problem. If you suspect that your personal items have been used by someone else, you should first sanitize them by washing them with hot water.
